Everyone's a little bit racist sometimes..

Andrea came to visit this weekend! We had so much fun! She loved Dublin, and I'm so glad because I too love the Dubs. We visited the gallows, which is a good history lesson so if you're in Dublin go. Having spent the past 2.5 months studying the Irish troubles it was cool to see a place that was steeped with so much Irish history, nationalistic and otherwise. Even a little American history as well! Did you know an indian tribe in Oklahoma raised money to send to the famine relief in Ireland in 1845? Now you do!
I think Andrea got the full Irish experience. We went out for a friends birthday on friday and danced our little hearts out and got hit on by drunk irish boys. Now, I can enjoy good conversation and I have decided while here not to tell people what I'm studying or for the most part that I go to school in Texas. Mentioning Texas does 1 of 2 things. Numero one: It is assumed that I have a shrine of George Bush in my closet, a tattoo of a bald eagle across my back and the stares and stripes on my undies. And just to clear up any confusion, none of these are true. Number 2: Black people are mentioned. Either that George Bush hates black people to quote Kanye or because a lot of Irish hate black people. It's true, racism runs deep. These boys at the bar asked us if since we lived in Texas do we hate black people? My response "No. But you do huh? What about the Polish? The Romanians?" They hate them all. Infact they said the blacks should 'go back to the cornfield.' At that point I got up and said I was ready to go.
I also took Andrea to Joburger, which is an amazing hamburger place near school. It was her first hamburger since August! She was so happy!

And at the end of the weekend the moral of the story was: Dublin is better than Paris! ;)
