And I don't even like rules, but, I'm really angry. I'm not sure why what I'm about to tell you about makes me so angry, but it does. I hate when people use facebook to attack other people, especially when they don't know them and use it as a plateform to be pompious and well, bitchy. Now I don't know who 'L' is but I dont like her and I think she needs to take some pills. This is all comments on my friends facebook status. So I know S and think she's great. And am greatly offended by this conversation. I'm not sure why.
M loved her first day of subbing! Yay for deaf kids! :.) 10:25pm

Your status is a little messed up...I guess insensitive is the word I'm looking for.

maybe she doesn't realize that you love deaf kids.... maybe she thinks you're being sarcastic??i dunno, but i am so glad that we're gonna teach deaf kiddos and not hearing ones... cuz hearing kids are a pain! lol

You're subbing!? That's so great!

No, I did not think that she was being sarcastic and from going to high school with her, I know that she "loves deaf kids".In all honesty, the fact that you said the later of your comment... makes me think that you're an idiot... yes, hearing kids are a pain (sarcasm)... what kind of teacher will you be when you lack the tact and understanding to not differentiate between deaf and hearing kids... obviously the school didn't teach you how to be empathetic...

in a world where deaf kids are discriminated against and treated poorly in the school system, left behind, neglected and ignored by the school, state, and even their parents.... just because they can't hear and where their hearing peers are favored in the school system i want to teach deaf kids not because hearing kids are a pain (i still deal with... Read More hearing kids everyday and i want some of my own one day) but the reason is that i want to stand up for those deaf kids who don't have a voice in the school system... who are forgotten and not cared about. the hearing kids have a voice... the deaf kids, they don't and their education shows that. i'm sorry i want to help the deaf kids because they need so much of it. and sorry i don't want to teach hearing kids, but they've got enough help, most can read on college reading levels when they graduate high school... but what about our deaf kids... one of my students is graduating this year and he reads on a 1st grade level thats why i help

Lol, you're still an idiot. What does that have anything to do with the fact that you STILL lack tact and empathy? It's just sad to hear you attempt to prove your point, while at the same time, you're still too uneducated to realize how politically incorrect you are as you're referring to the hearing impaired as "deaf kids". Don't take me so ... lightly as to be ignorant of the circumstances... my sister-in-law teaches children of many disabilities (including the hearing impaired) and I've volunteered at the VRC in New York and multiple venues where I've cared for and interacted with these people. Maybe you're what I should expect from a southern education system but you should know that most take offense to your jargon... I know personally that the parents of hearing impaired children would be offended by you and your views on their lack of potential and current state of mental capacity. They're not as pitiful and helpless as you think. You'll only do more harm than good "helping." ...with your current narrow and uncultured views. Pity should not be a reason of action.Oh, by the way... I guess they forgot to teach you statistics in school or perhaps you lack the incentive to be informed because contrary to your beliefs, only a third of high school graduates are able to read on a college level. Maybe it's a good idea for ... you check the federally funded National Center for Education Statistics' website before you speak; maybe then I'll have a little more respect concerning your mental capacity. Please be culturally informed before you open your mouth or else you'll just be another reason why the American School System is declining. Don't try to educate unless you yourself are educated.p.s. Mandy, no offense towards you...just your idiot of a friend. I still have respect for you and what you're doing.
I'm sure you probably don't care about any of this, as most of you don't know these people. But, I would still like to just point out how offensive it is, and how you can use that language with someone you don't even know! Agh.

wow that person is seriously wrong in so many ways. it makes me angry to read that (for other reasons than the obvious personal insults to someone they don't know). Deaf people see themselves not as disabled, but rather as a culture unto themselves. that person would actually be offending Deaf individuals by calling them hearing "impaired" since they don't see themselves as lacking, but just different. ASL is a fully recognized language, not as a crutch for those that can't hear. that person is too worried about being politically correct to understand that Deaf people don't want to be treated like they have a disability. most resent hearing people for just that reason; because hearing people feel sorry for Deaf people and think that deafness is an impairment. it is absolutely true that there is a large disparity between the reading levels of Deaf individuals because school systems focus so much on trying to "fix" their deafness rather than trying to teach them to read and write English at their appropriate level. most educators and speech language pathologists spend so much time trying to "normalize" their speech when they could help the kids embrace ASL, their own language, and use it to help them learn a second language to proficiency, English. sorry for the rant, it just bugs me
I totally agree with you Karlene, that happened to a friend of mine around election time just because she put something about liking Obama in her status.
It's ridiculous how horrible and unfriendly people can be. Plus, it's just facebook, they need to calm down.
